ZERO TOLERANCE AGAINST RAGGING

Advent College strictly prohibits ragging in any form on campus, in hostels, transport, or any institution-related activity. Any act of ragging is a punishable offence under the law and AICTE regulations. The college is fully committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and harassment-free environment for all students.

What is Ragging?

Definition as per UGC / AICTE Regulations

  • Any conduct, by words spoken or written, or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student.
  • Indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities which cause or are likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm to any student.
  • Asking students to do any act that causes shame, embarrassment, or that adversely affects their physique or psyche.
  • Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure imposed on a junior student by a senior student.
  • Any act of physical abuse including sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene acts, or similar activities.
  • Any act of harm or injury, whether physical or psychological, caused to any student by another student.

Punishment for Ragging

As prescribed by AICTE and Hon'ble Supreme Court of India

Level 1 Verbal abuse, humiliation, or mental harassment Warning, Community service, Suspension from classes
Level 2 Physical misconduct, financial extortion Suspension from institution, Withholding of results/degree
Level 3 Sexual abuse, grievous physical injury Expulsion from institution & criminal prosecution under IPC
Level 4 Causing death or abetment of suicide Expulsion + FIR under IPC + imprisonment up to 10 years

  • Right to study in a safe and ragging-free environment at all times.
  • Right to report ragging anonymously without fear of victimization.
  • Right to receive prompt institutional action on any ragging complaint.
  • Right to confidentiality — identity of complainant shall be kept secret.
  • Right to seek redressal from Anti-Ragging Committee at any time.
  • Right to fair and time-bound inquiry proceedings as per AICTE norms.

  • Chairperson:  Principal — Dr. Divya Dwivedi
  • Faculty Representatives:  Senior faculty members nominated by the Principal
  • Student Representatives:  Two elected student representatives from each batch
  • Non-Teaching Staff:  Administrative head or their nominee
  • Media Representative:  A representative from print or electronic media
  • Local Authority:  A representative from the local police / civil administration
